A certificate of analysis (COA) is a lab report on the chemical make-up of a product. The report will tell you the cannabinoid and contaminant profile of CBD products. COAs are used to verify that the contents of the product are matched to how it is advertised. These tests are done by independent 3rd party labs so you can rest assured you can trust the results. Substances reported in a COA include the following:

  • Pesticides
  • Residual Solvents
  • Microbials
  • Heavy Metals
  • Foreign Materials
  • Mycotoxins

You can find the COA for your Canopy CBD products here or by scanning the QR code on the label with your mobile device. Once on the website the customer can find the associated COA based on the LOT ID found at the bottom of the box.

Learn more about how to read a COA here.

FAQ Item

The CBD in the products that Canopy sells in the US is derived from legally grown hemp.

FAQ Item

In the US, Canopy’s products contain only trace amounts—less than 0.05 percent—of THC. US regulations state that products must be less than 0.3% THC, or 3000 parts per million. Our products are lower than that limit by a significant margin.

FAQ Item

We can not make any guarantees regarding the results of the drug test because we do not know the exact parameters for the test.

However, by using a pure form of CBD (isolate), we eliminate THC to the point that nearly all laboratories will not detect any THC in our products, including our testing labs. Please view the COA for your particular product and batch to view the THC and non-detectable levels.

FAQ Item

CBD does not produce the psychoactive effects that have long been linked with cannabis—and more specifically, with THC. In fact, you can’t get high from CBD.

FAQ Item

Hemp-derived CBD products can be brought onto domestic flights, but generally are not permissible on international flights or cruises. Read more about TSA's guidelines on CBD here.

FAQ Item

Our use of non-natural ingredients is to support a product’s efficacy when a natural alternative is not available. The use of heavily vetted, non-natural ingredients in our CBD boosters is to ensure safety and stability of the product.

FAQ Item

Bi-phase technology is when the formulation is contained within separate water and oil phases that repel on a molecular level, which helps maintain the stability of the actives. In this formulation the active ingredients are (in the main) held within the water phase and the CBD is held in the oil – when you look at the formulation the oil sits on top of the water. Remember to shake the bottle to combine the phases before you apply to the product.

FAQ Item

No, our CBD Boosters contain 100% natural essential oil fragrance.

FAQ Item

Every individual's biochemistry is different; please follow the directions found on the label for best practices.

The onset and duration of the effects you feel from our products also depends on the method in which you consume them:

  • If inhaling one of our pre-roll products, you should feel effects within seconds to minutes, and they could last for up to 6 hours.
  • If ingesting one of our softgels or oils, you should feel the effects within 30 minutes to 2 hours, and they could last for up to 12 hours.
  • If applying one of our topical products, you should feel effects within 10 to 15 minutes, and they could last for as long as 2-4 hours.

Results may vary, regardless of method of consumption.

FAQ Item

The short answer is: no, you can't overdose on CBD.

While there are receptors for cannabinoids (such as CBD) present throughout your central nervous system, there are relatively few in the area of your brain stem that is responsible for your cardiorespiratory drive. In effect, it’s physically impossible to consume enough CBD to cause you to stop breathing—what would typically be described as an overdose.

So as a general rule, most people can safely use CBD products. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published data suggesting CBD products are safe for consumption.

One cause for concern when it comes to safety is the inconsistency of purity between providers and a lack of quality when it comes to certain hemp-derived products. That’s why, from seed to sale, Canopy rigorously monitors its processes with consumer safety in mind. Safety and consistency are essential to us; we’ve built our reputation on both. Everything we produce is rigorously tested to ensure precise amounts of CBD, and detect any pesticides, microbes, or heavy metals. Our hemp is grown and harvested using Good Agricultural Practices, processed under health authority accreditation, and our products are manufactured using exacting pharmacological standards. During the manufacturing process, each product is subjected to continuous safety and quality checks. Everything we produce is packaged to provide consumers with the information they need, and shipped securely to the point of sale or directly to the consumer. Everything we sell is traceable from hemp seed to the consumer’s hands.

We recommend following the directions on the label for best practices.

FAQ Item

Shelf life varies from product to product. We suggest storing your product in a cool, dry place, and using it before the expiration date printed on the packaging.

FAQ Item

Please use as per the direction on the label.

It’s important to note that everyone’s experience with CBD is unique to them; just because a product affects someone in a certain way, it doesn’t mean that you’ll experience the exact same effects, or require the same amounts.

That’s why we recommend you start with a low amount of CBD and monitor how it makes you feel before trying more. If you’re looking to try a pure CBD product, we recommend starting with an easy-to-measure CBD product such as an oil, as it simplifies this “start low, go slow” process.

FAQ Item

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system that all human beings, and most vertebrates, possess. The ECS consists of receptors that are spread throughout the body, and is involved in many physiological functions, including pain, sleep, inflammation, memory, digestion, immune functions, and neuroprotection.

When CBD is introduced to the body—whether in a carrier oil or softgel, a topical cream, or as an edible product—it interacts with the ECS, but does not bind directly to the system’s main receptors. As a result, CBD is not known to cause the intoxicating, euphoric effects that THC does; in fact, it may help reduce these effects.

Learn more about the ECS here.

FAQ Item

Firstly, CBD on its own does not produce the psychoactive effects that have long been linked with cannabis—and more specifically, THC. In fact, you can’t get high from CBD. This is because CBD is non-euphoric and never converts to THC in the bloodstream—meaning even the highest doses of CBD won’t impair body or mind functions.

Current research is ongoing, but indicates that are significant therapeutic effects. As you read this, scientists are studying possible uses for CBD, including its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiemetic, and anti-seizure effects.

FAQ Item

When CBD is introduced to the body—whether in a carrier oil or softgel, a topical cream, or as an edible product—it interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which consists of receptors that are spread throughout the body. However, CBD does not bind directly to the system’s main receptors. As a result, CBD is not known to cause the intoxicating, euphoric effects that THC does; in fact, it may help reduce these effects.

FAQ Item

While many have claimed significant benefits from CBD use, some people have associated it with nausea, fatigue, and irritability. Some studies suggest that CBD use can lead to increased levels of coumadin (blood thinner) and other medications in your blood, in much the same way grapefruit juice is said to. While CBD is generally considered safe, it’s important to understand the possible side effects before incorporating it into your life.

The effects of CBD can vary from person to person, and are influenced by a plethora of factors such as genetics, biochemistry, gender, tolerance, health, and even the environment in which the hemp was grown.

FAQ Item

The CBD Canopy uses in its US products is either extracted from legal hemp plants and refined into CBD isolate, or—in the case of CBD pre-rolls—ground flowers from legal hemp plants with less than 0.03% THC.

FAQ Item

Humans, and most vertebrates, naturally produce endocannabinoids that interact with cell receptors throughout our bodies. Our endocannabinoid system (ECS) is involved in many physiological functions, including pain, sleep, inflammation, memory, digestion, immune functions, and neuroprotection.

When CBD is introduced to the body—whether in a carrier oil, a topical cream, or as an edible product—it interacts with the ECS, but does not bind directly to the system’s main receptors. FAQ Item

CBD isolate is created by repeatedly refining hemp extract. The result is something that guarantees very precise dosing and highly consistent results, and essentially no THC content. Other processes may result in what are called broad-spectrum CBD, which contains a higher number of active ingredients, and full-spectrum CBD, which contains THC. In its softgels, oil drops, and topical creams, Canopy uses only CBD isolate, ensuring that consumers get pure CBD and can be assured they’re getting the exact same thing with every purchase.

FAQ Item

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of about 100 active ingredients found in plants of the cannabis family that includes what are commonly known as hemp and marijuana. Unlike ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC—another of the active ingredients in cannabis—CBD does not cause noticeable intoxicating, euphoric effects.

FAQ Item

CBD isolate is made from hemp extract that has been refined several times to produce the purest CBD product on the market: typically with over 99% purity and no THC. Virtually all of the plant’s other cannabinoids are removed, as are the extract’s color and flavor profiles. As CBD is the only active ingredient in the isolate, you get a consistent and predictable serving every time.

FAQ Item

Cannabinoids are the active chemical compounds found in hemp. When someone consumes a hemp-derived product, these compounds interact with the receptors in a person’s endocannabinoid system to create an effect. There are many different types of cannabinoids located all throughout the various parts of the hemp plant, however, the most researched and understood are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD).

FAQ Item

Yes. The CBD that Canopy uses in its US products is generally extracted from hemp, then refined into CBD isolate. In the case of our CBD pre-rolls, the CBD comes from the flowers of legally-grown hemp plants.

By law, all hemp plants legally grown in the US must contain less than 0.3 percent THC (the compound in cannabis that causes euphoric or “high” sensations). In the US, our products contain only trace amounts—generally less than 0.05 percent—of THC.

FAQ Item

Our CBD is extracted from hemp using ethanol as a solvent. Not only is ethanol efficient in extracting CBD from plant material, it’s classified “Generally Regarded as Safe” by the FDA and is already used in many common foods and medicines. After extraction, the ethanol is separated from the CBD and removed. First & Free CBD is carefully tested for residual solvents and must be significantly below the required testing limits.

FAQ Item

Most of our products do not smell or taste like cannabis, because they contain CBD in the form of an isolate. CBD isolate is made from hemp extract that has been refined several times to produce the purest CBD product on the market. Virtually all of the plant’s other cannabinoids are removed, as are the extract’s color and flavor profiles.

However, our pre-rolls are made using CBD-rich strains of hemp flower, which offers a more holistic aroma. When you smoke CBD flower, you can experience all of the plant’s complex, naturally-occurring terpenes (the compounds that give it its unique taste and smell).

FAQ Item

Store your CBD in a cold, dark & dry place after opening.

FAQ Item

We use the CBD from the stems and leaves of the hemp plant, resulting in an extract (or end product) with undetectable levels of THC. The CBD we use in our end product is 100% pure CBD isolate, the purest form of CBD extract.

FAQ Item

No. We do not advise that you use CBD while pregnant or breastfeeding.

FAQ Item

CBD isolate is simply the purest form of CBD. We use CBD isolate rather than full spectrum CBD or broad-spectrum CBD in order to maintain consistency between batches or harvests. Learn more about the difference between isolate, full-, and broad-spectrum CBD here.

FAQ Item

We test at 3 stages via independent laboratories, throughout the production process for CBD, THC and heavy metals. We use 100% CBD isolate (the purest form of CBD extract) with undetectable levels of THC and each CBD booster also comes with a certificate of analysis to prove levels of CBD, THC and Heavy Metals.

The three testing stages are:

  1. Isolate post extraction from hemp plant
  2. Isolate batch pre-manufacture
  3. Final product.
FAQ Item

Yes, all of our CBD products are tested for microbial contamination.

FAQ Item

This Works CBD boosters come far below the legal limit of THC (0.3% in the US) with undetectable levels of THC. Each of our boosters also comes with a certificate of analysis issued by an independent laboratory to prove the levels of CBD, THC, and heavy metals.

FAQ Category

Hemp

FAQ Item

Hemp is a type of Cannabis plant from which our CBD oil is extracted from. Part of the subspecies Cannabis sativa, what we call hemp has been grown for thousands of years. Until the early 20th century, hemp was an important source of tough fiber—a mainstay of shipping before the Age of Steam, to cite one vital use.

FAQ Item

No. Although both are members of the Cannabaceae family, which also includes hops and hackberries, hemp is distinct from the cannabis plants that produce large quantities of THC. While hemp and “marijuana” are both technically cannabis, the latter term is actually a pejorative created in the 1930s to link the intoxicating plant to Mexican culture.

FAQ Item

From 1938–2018, with only a few exceptions, hemp was illegal to grow, possess, or use for research in the US. In 2018, revisions to the Farm Bill legalized the growth of so-called industrial hemp, which contains less than 0.03 percent—what can be called trace amounts—of the cannabinoid THC, the compound that causes noticeable intoxicating, euphoric effects. CBD and THC are just two of more than 400 compounds found in hemp.

FAQ Item

Since 2018, hemp with less than 0.03 percent of THC can be cultivated anywhere in the US.

FAQ Item

CBD is produced naturally in the flowers, seeds, and leaves of the hemp plant. In processing, the flowers, seeds, and leaves are separated from the hemp stalks, then dried, milled, and granulated. CBD extraction can be performed using several methods, including alcohol, ethanol, or CO2. Following extraction, CBD intended for our softgels, oils, and topical creams is further refined through distillation, creating CBD isolate, which is very pure and has only trace amounts of THC. Canopy’s CBD is carefully tested for residual solvents and must be significantly below the required testing limits.

FAQ Item

Hemp naturally produces THC, but legal hemp has less than 0.03% of THC. The THC level for our CBD products is further reduced through the distillation process Canopy uses, and the CBD isolate we use has less than 0.05% THC content.
